Quail's Nest Reviews

Lovely house, views, and a warm welcome.

Recommend a stroll to the castle, also Longhoughton beach and Rumbling Kerns.

Not enough time to explore everywhere, we’ll have to come back!

Many thanks.

PS Delicious cake, thank you!

What a fabulous holiday we have had! Thanks to John and Rosie for a very warm welcome (and a delicious cake). The property had everything we needed and the view is just amazing.  We visited lots of beaches, all huge, clean and dog-friendly: Alnmouth, Bamburgh, Embleton, Longhoughton, Beadnell. We visited lots of harbours at Craster, Holy Island, Seahouses and Amble (Alliance for fresh fish).

It really is a beautiful part of the country and the locals are incredibly friendly.  Food – the Running Fox does a fab afternoon tea, Berwick Kitchen does a lovely roast, and Carlos does great fish and chips.

Warkworth Castle was a particular highlight for us, again dog-friendly all over. There is so much more that we wanted to do but time got the better of us so we will definitely be coming back and would love to stay here again.  Thank you!

PS Check out the Hobbit connection re Edlingham Castle and viaduct. You can stop in one of the laybys on the B6341.  Fantastic!

"I stayed in this beautiful house for the whole of December '22.  Warm, comfortable, and very well-equipped with everything anyone would need for a holiday.  Rosie and John are perfect hosts; close-by if needed but not intrusive in any way. Edlingham is a tiny hamlet with the most incredible, interrupted, views from the house, and the castle ruins and the tiny church are lovely.  The wider area has so much to do and see Craster is only 20 minutes drive, Beadnell and Bamburgh only a little further away.  Alnwick has most of the major supermarkets and lots of lovely independent shops - we particularly love the pet shop!  Can't wait to visit again."

"Loved it.  In the middle of rural Northumberland, beautiful vistas, nature. Perfect, super clean, warm, secure and wonderful hosts"

"Very well equipped cottage with everything you need. Beautiful view across the valley from the living room and the patio. Peaceful location in a very small village, with a (ruined) castle and 11th century church but no shops. Welcoming and hospitable hosts. Lots to do in the area."

"Quail's Nest was the ideal place to stay for a relaxing week away in Northumberland. The cottage is a new build and was exceptionally clean and spacious and contained all the furniture, fittings and cooking utensils you will ever need.  The views from the lounge, overlooking the valley with rolling hills and forests, were just stunning and the cottage was ideally located for hill walking.  The cottage is near the town of Alnwick, with its great castle and renowned gardens. The Northumberland coast, with its famous castles, was easily accessible.  Hosts Rosemary and John were very inviting and we would like to thank them for making our stay so comforting and relaxing. We would certainly stay at Quail's Nest again."

"Quail's Nest Cottage is a cosy cottage with all the mod cons of a new build property. The cottage was clean, spacious and tastefully decorated. Some lovely touches make this property a premium stay including a log burner (not that you need it as the underfloor heating makes it very toasty), gorgeous walk in shower, a large kitchen and a handy utility area.

Rosie the owner was very welcoming and was happy to answer any questions and provide local knowledge. This is a dog friendly property and my dog was well catered for with towels, bowl etc. The property is set in a very peaceful hamlet with lovely views and access to walks. It is conveniently situated for beach walks along the Northumberland coast and is only 10 mins drive from Alnwick. There are also some lovely forest walks nearby at Thrunton Woods. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for quality accommodation in a peaceful setting with convenient access to outdoor activities and local towns."

Don't just take our word for it...
